Nadide spent the walk home reciting what she would tell her brother.

Savaner kishah is dead. I helped avenge you. I avenged Eryadin bajedi and the kishah’s own Mucevhed. No one else has to die for that man’s greed.

It should have been good news. But somehow Nadide dreaded every step that set her closer to home.

Savaner kishah is dead but the Stand is destroyed and no one seems to be able to set it right.

I cast a spell on you so that you could not stop me from marrying the man who twice tried to kill you.

The room they had put him in was dark and small. Ahmad had tried pushing and kicking against the door, but it did not budge. He thought he could hear guards outside, and he shouted at them first in Kadehirden and then, when he grew tired of that, swore at them freely in his mother tongue until he tired of that too.

When Nadide’s mother had been alive, she had enjoyed telling her only daughter what to expect from the day of her wedding. “You’ll look so beautiful, with your hair finally up, and we’ll get you the finest dress in all of Kadehir,” she would say with a smile. “And when you leave the house, you’ll have your family and dancers and singers to escort you to your husband and your new life.”

Nadide had intended to dismiss everyone when she went to her brother's quarters. The soldier who had carried her brother in wished her well and took his leave, but Esma and Kadim tarried.

"What would you have us do now?" Esma asked with a wringe of her hands.

"Is there anything you need from me, janum?" Esma asked. It was the third time she'd asked the question within the hour, and Nadide still had no answer for her. The maidservant resumed her sweeping. Nadide just remained sitting on the cushion. She had not moved from the spot since they had come to arrest Ahmad.

The carriage arrived so early the next morning that Ozal and Kadim were the only ones awake in the house when they set off for the Palace. Ozal told himself that he had to leave then because his errand demanded it. The Sheikh of Magicians would be hard to find in the best of times, and now was certainly not the best of times. But as Ozal sat across from Kadim and watched the sunrise spread slowly over Kadehir, he knew it was no coincidence that he left before he had to face Nadide or Ahmad.

They returned home with rather less spectacle than they had left. Nadide watched the streets uneasily, feeling suddenly exposed without even a cloak to hide behind. But she kept her head held high. She had done what needed to be done to uncover Savaner kishah's secret. If it took sacrificing her dignity or her reputation -- well, she was willing to sacrifice those and more if that was what it took to stop the man.

Mahir had known they had failed when he saw lighting on the horizon, but when the storm was over and Ozal had found them in the crowd, he enlightened them in even more detail about their failure. It was a somber carriage ride back to Ozal’s home, even as the city exploded in celebration around them. Throughout it all, Ahmad said little. He appeared deep in thought and let Ozal fill the silence as he wished.

Nothing happened for several days and each day where nothing continued to happen was a torture.

Ozal was not sure what he had expected. Perhaps that the Imperial Magician would call for him again. Or maybe just send a messenger. Even a letter. But there was only silence.

Ozal had always thought himself a virtuous man, but not one who relied overmuch on prayer. But the morning he was to meet with Tolga bajedi, he lit a candle to the Mother and stood in front of the shrine until his knees finally forced him to relent.

He had instructed Kadim to deliver a letter to the Imperial Magician stating that he remembered the morning he had been poisoned and would like to speak in private. Perhaps, though, it would be good to have someone there from the military. A kishah, without question -- perhaps Savaner kishah, who had after all had been the first to remember the strange poisons used by the Vaspahanians during the Summer War?

The Mother’s virtue was mercy. As Ozal snuffed out the candle and made to leave, he hoped She knew that he would be in dire need of her blessings today.

Days passed, and Ahmad had still found no new spells.

Days passed, and Ozal still had yet to see Tolga or Gokberk bajedi again. He had tactfully inquired around and learned nothing. Without his magic, without his influence, Ozal’s work was menial and for the first time he found himself wondering if he could still secure his family’s future.

The nights passed uneasily. Sleep eluded him. Instead, he felt only a vague dread. Even during the day, he spoke less and less even to Kadim, and he knew the Mucevhed noticed. But it seemed better to stay quiet when Ozal could still taste the faintest hint of ash whenever he breathed too deeply.

This is what it must feel like, he thought to himself one day, when an animal is cornered.

The ambassador was to meet with them early in the morning. Ozal left for the Palace well before first light, but still he somehow found that Gokberk and Tolga bajedi had both still somehow arrived before him. The two men sat on simple cushions in a small room near the front entrance of the barracks, sipping tea and deep in discussion with their Mucevheden standing attentively behind them.

“Ah, Ozal bajedi, there you are,” Tolga called out. The conversation between the two stopped as soon as Ozal entered the room. He tried not to let that fact weigh too heavily on him as he returned the Imperial Magician’s greeting. From the corner of his eyes, he could see Kadim shift his weight uneasily between his feet. Still, his Mucevhed procured a cushion -- plain and practical, if not a little lumpy -- and Ozal took his seat with some care.

The Great Library was one of the largest rooms anywhere in the Stand, and it was crammed with shelves packed full of books and desks where Mucevheden and magicians alike sat reading and copying various passages. Despite -- or maybe because of -- the number of people present, it was also one of the quietest places in the Stand, with only the occasional whispered mutter and the ever present scratch of reed against parchment in the background.

When Ahmad stepped inside, he swore. Mahir was thankful he did so under his breath.

The certainty with which Ozal had spoken to his sister did not last the night. He slept lightly, his dreams a restless jumble. A lattice of white roots floating above him. Eryadin bajedi sitting across from him, his mouth opening to speak but no words coming out. And in the distance, the faint outline of a ship, sailing just at the edge of the horizon —

Dear Yuletide Writer,

I am excited to participate in Yuletide and can't wait to see what you will write for me! In this letter, I've tried to include a list of prompts and things I want to see / things I don't want to see. These are just generally there to be helpful -- don't feel limited to these prompts, and unless something is specifically called out as a DNW you don't have to treat it as such. Overall, the main DNWs I have are:

- Non-canon character deaths
- Graphic violence
- A/B/O dynamics
- Kidfic

Things I always like:
- Character-driven fics
- Unusual formats for fics, including non-chronological fics, use of the second person, etc.

Now that that's done, here are the fandoms I am requesting!

Diriliş: Ertuğrul | Resurrection: Ertugul

The source material: Resurrection: Ertugul is a Turkish drama about the father of the man who would go on to form the Ottoman Empire. Its story starts with the land grant that would lay the foundation for that empire, but, with more than a hundred episode, it is pretty much the definition of a sweeping epic. I've seen it referred to as Turkey's answer to Game of Thrones for its scale and historical subject matter. Netflix owns the rights for American audiences; you can find the full international availability here.

As of the time of writing, I am about halfway through Season 1. I doubt I will finish Season 1 before Yuletide reveals, so I would ask any fic to not include Season 2+ spoilers.

Requested characters: Selcan Hatun, Gondogdu

Selcan and Gondogdu

What I’d like to see:
- Scheming! I love side characters who have conflicted / hostile feelings towards the protagonist. I understand that particularly with Selcan, there's probably a great deal more spoilers with her and Gondogdu further on. But I'd love to see something more character focused about their relationship or Gondogdu's fraught relationship with Ertugul.
- Slice of life. I can't say I know much about life in the Kayi tribe, but anything you want to include about daily life in that setting would be great.

Don’t want to see:
- Please don't spoil too much of what happens to Gondogdu (I know he leaves the show at some point) or Selcan Hatun's backstory.

La Casa De Papel | Money Heist

The source material: La Casa de Papel is a Spanish drama about a ragtag team of criminals who join together to rob a mint and make a fortune. If you love a good heist, I would highly recommend the first season. (There are three available seasons, but I have only watched the first two.) It is available on Netflix under the name Money Heist. (It is apparently Netflix's most popular non-English language show.)

Note: my request contains spoilers for season 2

Requested characters: Ariadna Cascales

What I’d like to see:
- FIX IT FIC. I cannot state enough how much I hated the ending the show gave her. The show basically trivialized her sexual assault and made Berlin out to be a hero. I really wanted her to get his fortune and her revenge. Anything that retcons the ending and has her triumphant over Berlin would be highly relevant to my interests
- Anything character-driven, focused on the aftermath of the heist and how she copes/ heals

Don’t want to see:
- Anything with Berlin in a positive light

Лучше, чем люди | Better Than Us

The source material: Better than Us is Netflix's first Russian language original series. Set in the near future where robots are commonplace and work alongside humans, it centers on an advanced AI named Arisa and the drama that entails when she bonds with a human family that is struggling to stay together. (Also: sex bots! Murder!)

Requested characters: Arisa, Sonya Safronova

What I’d like to see:
- I'd love to see fic about how Sonya's relationship with Arisa changes as she gets older. (Note: I am in the middle of s1 so if something happens to either one of these characters, this also becomes a Fix It Fic request) As a very young girl, Sonya is ignorant about the way Arisa is sexualized and marginalized by society and also has yet to experience that kind of sexualization and marginalization herself in a meaningful way. This leads to her having one of the best relationships with Arisa on the show, free from a lot of the emotional baggage that a lot of other characters bring to their relationships with Arisa. But what happens when Sonya gets older, and starts becoming more aware of societal pressures and expectations? How does that change her relationship with Arisa?

Don’t want to see:
- I don't really think of this as a ship and don't really want ship fic, but if something about these two really speaks to you in a shippy way, feel free to go for it

Titans

The source material: Titans is an original DCU show that follows the adventures of Nightwing (Dick Grayson), Starfire (Koriand'r), Beast Boy (Gar Logan) and Raven (Rachel Roth) as they unite to try and save the world from Raven's demonic father, Trigon.

Requested characters: Dick Grayson, Koriand'r

What I’d like to see:
- Kori-centric fic! One of my biggest gripes in season 1 (still have yet to see any of season 2) is how little we got to see of Kori's internal life. Would love to see fics set during season 1-ish (or before) from her perspective
- Case-fic with either Dick and Kori falling for each other (perhaps after butting heads) or being an established couple (and probably still butting heads, at least a little bit)
- I love the trope of Dick and Kory being long-suffering parents to Gar and Raven (with optional cool aunt Donna Troy and bad stepson Jason Todd). An AU where they are explicitly a family (either in a mundane setting or not) would be great. Props for wacky hijinks.

Don’t want to see:
- DNW sexual violence
- No season 2 plot points please

Mahir wasn't sure how long he sat in the corner before Ahmad found him. All he knew was that he heard Ahmad before he saw him, heavy footsteps running towards the kitchen. Ahmad ran until he was by Mahir's side, and he was almost breathless when he knelt down and asked, "Are you alright?"

Mahir's cheeks burned. "I'm fine," he said. Ahmad raised a hand to cup Mahir's cheeks, and Mahir leaned into the touch. It was easier to believe his own words now.

"Nadide said -- I came as soon as I knew. I couldn't see you, I didn't know --"

The next morning, Ozal and Ahmad departed for the Palace. It felt strange for two magicians to venture out alone again, but it could not be helped. Until Ahmad passed the exam it would be wise not to call too much official attention to the Mucevhed in his company and, while Ozal would have preferred to take Kadim, it made him uneasy to leave his sister alone at home.

For her part, Nadide appeared indifferent to this sacrifice. "Do you really intend to accuse the Imperial Magician?" she had asked privately this morning, the thin line of her mouth speaking volumes about her own thoughts on the matter.

That night, Nadide waited until Ozal had retired into his quarters before she snuffed out all the candles in her room except the one she carried with her to visit the foreign magician’s room.

Ahmad sat cross-legged on the floor and when she entered he bid her to sit across from him.

“I told you I have never taught magic and no one ever taught me," he started. There was a hesitancy in his voice, as if he half-expected Nadide to call off the arrangement right then and there. As if Nadide had a choice of tutors available to her.

The nursery was much changed since Mahir had called it home, and it took him a few moments searching to find a window with a decent view. He thought to ask, but he was not eager to speak with anyone here who might recognize him. It had been several years, but the Stand did not raise that many Mucevheden. At least he had the advantage of being one of the few boys above thirteen to walk these halls. A male Mucevhed of Mahir’s age here was most likely on an errand for his magician, and thus unlikely to be disturbed.

Berdu departed early the next morning. Most of Kadehir still slept, but Ozal and Nadide were there to see him off. Ozal did not think he was imagining the relief in his uncle's expression at the thought of returning home, but still he dawdled on their doorstep.

“My wife has so many fond memories of this house,” he sighed. “Almost two centuries old, but still so beautiful. Ozal, you must do everything in your power to ensure it stands for at least two more.”

The look he gave was too pointed for that to be merely a platitude. Ozal was not so cruel as to ask which prospect frightened his uncle more: his bachelordom or the accusations he had made only yesterday against the most powerful magician in the Empire. It was not like his uncle's answer would sway his mind on either topic. Instead, he just nodded.
